In the Democratic Republic of Congo, decades of instability have brought deep challenges—conflict, displacement, and uncertainty. Yet even in hardship, communities continue to rise with courage, creativity, and faith.
Jonathan and Kate Shaw, Mesa Workers serving in Congo since 2013, are part of that story. Alongside a diverse local team, they invest in renewable energy, education, entrepreneurship, and counseling. Jonathan helps lead Nuru, a renewable energy company that brings reliable power and connection to homes and businesses that once went without it. Others focus on education and trauma care, offering both practical support and the hope of the gospel.
When conflict broke out in the city of Goma earlier this year, the Shaws and their teammates relocated temporarily to Kenya. Yet even from afar, the work continued—power still flowing through Nuru’s grids, students still learning through special education programs, and counselors still walking with those who carry unseen wounds.
Now, as some team members return, they find a community rebuilding. Streets are reopening, neighbors are reconnecting, and churches are gathering once again. Amid every challenge, God’s people continue to serve, reminding the world that renewal always begins with hope.
One home powered. One child taught. One heart restored. Together, we see the gospel at work in Congo—turning hardship into opportunity and reminding us that no challenge is beyond redemption.
