Mike and Denise are Mesa Workers serving in northeastern Uganda, where one of their most important tools for ministry is something many of us take for granted: a reliable vehicle.
The couple regularly travels throughout the Karamoja region for ministry, family needs, medical care, supplies, and other essential responsibilities. But in Karamoja, the roads are often rough, deeply rutted, and sometimes nearly impassable during the rainy season. In a region as isolated as theirs, dependable transportation is more than a convenience. It is a necessity.
For Mike and Denise, however, their vehicle serves a purpose far beyond getting their family from one place to another.
The couple has never wanted transportation to determine whether someone receives help. Instead, they have embraced a ministry on the move—using what God has provided to bless others and say "yes" to the opportunities He places before them.
Recently, Mike encountered an elderly woman walking to a nearby health center for a surgical procedure. She had already traveled several miles on foot, with another nine miles still ahead of her. Without money for transportation, she had little choice but to continue walking.
But when Mike saw her, he had room in his vehicle and stopped to offer her a ride. What might have seemed like a simple gesture spared her a long, difficult journey and helped her reach the medical care she needed.
On another occasion, Denise had a similar opportunity to help a family close to her own. One of her children's friends and his family needed transportation home after the father had received treatment at a hospital 65 miles away. The cost of a taxi for such a long journey would have placed a considerable financial burden on the family.
As it happened, Denise was nearby and had room in her vehicle to bring them home.
Neither moment involved an elaborate ministry program or a planned outreach event. They were simply opportunities to recognize a need, extend a helping hand, and demonstrate the love of Jesus in a practical way.
Whether serving their neighbors or traveling across Uganda for ministry, Mike and Denise's vehicle helps remove barriers and open doors to care for others.
But while Mike and Denise have been able to bless others through their vehicle, they have also experienced the blessing of God's provision through the generosity of others.
For years, the couple relied on a 33-year-old Toyota Land Cruiser that carried their family and ministry across the often-undeveloped roads of northeastern Uganda. Eventually, major repairs became increasingly frequent, and it became clear that they could no longer depend on it for the long journeys their ministry required.
Mike and Denise began to pray, trusting God to provide what they needed to continue serving faithfully.
And through the generosity of their supporters, He did.
Over years of faithful giving, their family, friends, and ministry partners had helped them build financial reserves. When the time came to replace their vehicle, those reserves allowed Mike and Denise to cover the more than $44,000 cost of a newer Land Cruiser without interrupting their ministry.
What began as the consistent generosity of people who believed in their ministry became an answer to prayer at just the right time.
"Looking back," Denise shares, "we can clearly see God's provision in preparing us long before we knew this need was coming."
Today, that provision continues to reach far beyond Mike and Denise's family. It reaches the grandmother who needed a ride to the health center, the family returning home from the hospital, and the countless others they encounter along the roads of Karamoja.
Mike and Denise's ministry is one that moves—toward neighbors in need, toward opportunities to serve, and toward the places where God has called them to be present. And behind each journey is a community of faithful supporters whose generosity helps make that ministry possible.
For Mike and Denise, there is much to be grateful for: a dependable vehicle, the generosity of those who have faithfully supported their ministry, and the opportunities God continues to provide to share His love with their neighbors.
But perhaps the greatest gift is seeing how God's provision extends beyond their own family, becoming a blessing to others in ways they could never have anticipated.
Their story is a reminder that God's blessings rarely stop with us. Through faithful generosity, willing hearts, and everyday acts of love, those blessings keep moving—reaching new people, meeting unexpected needs, and reflecting the goodness of the God who provides.
