What Grows from Faithfulness

The story of a Thai family transformed by Jesus and equipped to serve others

In Thailand, there is a popular adage: To be Thai is to be Buddhist. The Buddhist faith is so deeply intertwined with national identity that, for many, the two can feel nearly inseparable.

Yet even within a culture shaped by centuries of Buddhist tradition, there are people searching for something more.

Nipon and Wiyada were among them. The Thai couple had built a successful life as business owners in Phuket, but prosperity and status had not answered the deeper questions they carried. When their daughter began attending university, they moved to Bangkok. What began simply as a new chapter for their family would become the setting for a much deeper transformation.

While living in Bangkok, Nipon came across an online sermon from Bangna Christian Fellowship, a local church. In the message, a Thai businessman shared how he had converted from Buddhism to Christianity and how God had transformed his life. Nipon recognized something of his own searching in the man’s story. He began spending hours learning, praying, and exploring the Christian faith until, one day, that search became personal: Nipon encountered God and put his faith in Jesus.

His decision to follow Jesus was only the beginning. Nipon and Wiyada began attending Bangna Christian Fellowship in person, where they met Gregg, a Mesa Worker serving at the church. Through their friendship and time spent studying Scripture together, Nipon began to understand what it meant to live out his newfound faith. And as his faith deepened, those closest to him began asking questions of their own. Soon, Wiyada, members of her family, and the couple’s daughters also came to faith in Jesus. Within the span of one month, three generations of their family had put their trust in Christ.

Those early months of faith also brought unexpected challenges. The couple faced financial struggles, and the COVID pandemic disrupted the church community that had become so important to them. But rather than slowing their spiritual growth, the difficult season opened the door to something they may not have experienced otherwise: deeper, more personal discipleship.

When larger gatherings ceased, Nipon and Wiyada began meeting regularly with Gregg in his home to study the Bible together. In the intimacy of those gatherings, they had space to ask questions, wrestle with what they were learning, and grow in their understanding of Scripture. Gregg walked closely alongside them as their new faith took root, and over time, their hunger to know God only deepened. What they were learning was not simply shaping what they believed; it was beginning to shape how they wanted to live.

Over time, that growing faith developed into a desire to serve others. Nipon, a natural evangelist, began sharing the gospel whenever opportunities arose, while he and Wiyada discovered a shared passion for strengthening churches. When regular church activities resumed, they stepped into leadership as project coordinators for a program helping churches develop strong youth ministries. Through this work, they have helped equip more than 150 churches across Thailand to strengthen their Sunday school programs.

Yet even as they began equipping others, Nipon and Wiyada remained committed to being equipped themselves. Their desire to know Scripture more deeply eventually led them to Bangkok Bible Seminary, one of Mesa Global’s partner seminaries, where they began pursuing further theological training.

Today, Nipon and Wiyada remain in Bangkok, faithfully serving their church and investing in others. As Thai believers, they understand firsthand the culture, beliefs, and questions that shape the lives of the people around them. Their faith is deeply rooted in their own community, giving them opportunities to share the hope of Jesus in ways that are both personal and enduring.

What began as one man searching for answers has become something much larger. Three generations of a family now follow Jesus. More than 150 churches have been strengthened. And Nipon and Wiyada continue to learn, serve, and pour into others.

Their story is a reminder that transformation often grows through ordinary acts of faithfulness—one conversation, one relationship, one open Bible, one willing step at a time. As Nipon and Wiyada continue walking faithfully where God has placed them, the faith that first took root in their own lives is taking root in others, strengthening the Church in Thailand from within.
